I posted essentially the same thing over on the Upper Midwest forum, but it’s kinda dead over there so I thought I’d post it here too.

Does anyone one know of any Autocross or rally cross events held north of Green Bay, or eastern Minnesota? I’d love to go to some events but I live on Lake Superior about 1 hour east of Superior. So basically everything I’ve found is at least 5+ hours away. I’m planing on going to Proving Gounds in Brianerd Mn, but that’s a huge event which means a lot less seat time, only or one of mayyyybe two laps. I did find Central Wisconsin Sports Car Club in my search which held events in Wis Rapids last year, which is only 3.5hrs away. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

But I’d love to know about any more events, and like love to take the Galant to some rallyX events too. Or legit track day events if I don’t have to pay a full club membership fee to do it.

Look up the W.A.G. ( https://www.facebook.com/Wisconsin-Autosports-Group-114105318600103/ ) they do ice racing events out in Hustisford at Lake Sinissippi, and some rally-x events in the warmer months farther north in WI.

Yep, CWSCC and FVSCC both run a bunch of ice rallyx events in the winter. First one should hopefully be this Sunday. A good number of us drive up from Chicagoland. If you’re on FB, following them on there is the best way to get up-to-date info. Because ice conditions can change pretty quickly, usually events aren’t 100% confirmed until the night before.

Hope to see you out there!

How often does Road America have open track days?

Farther north is what I’m looking for. I looked into the Lake Sinissippi events, but they’re 5.5 hours away. I did start fallowing them on FB though.

I did find the info, looks like they do 4 open track days per year, but they are 300 bucks, which is sadly a bit out of what I can/will pay for one day of fun.

The Lake Sinissippi events were good, but too far.

CWSCC and FVSCC run on Lake Poygan and Lake DuBay, which should be a bit closer for you.

Ya, it sounds like it would be great for when you get past the “learning” part of track day work as a bucket list thing so you can drive without an instructor.

Road America is one of the best most classic tracks in the US alongside the likes of Laguna Seca which is why it came to mind.

The issue is track days need a track, and Wisconsin really only has Road America and the Milwaukee Mile. RA events are usually around $250 to $300 per day and the Mile is more like $130. The only group that makes you pay a club fee at RA, as far as I know, is Badger Bimmers. Events at the Mile are all held by the SCCA which requires a membership.

You live far as fuck from anything lol. Have you heard of motorsportreg? You can set up your filters and location and then it will email you a list of upcoming events every month or so.

There’s also USAir in Shawano. Which is still almost 4 hours away even though it’s a lot farther north. It’s a smaller track, but CWSCC hold track days for just 80 bucks with 4 15 minute sessions. Still waiting on the 2017. CLUB FR Holds some drift events there too, guess I’ll need to buy something RWD.

the Gridlife folks are planning an ice racing event near Stevens Point next month, that’s a little bit closer for you, at least. Still a drive, but a little less crazy. It’s sold out, but I know there are people who will probably be selling their tickets (like, uh, me).

Selling your ticket?!

Your Miata is done so what’s your excuse now?

Driving a car like that 3.5+ hours to an event does not sound super appealing. No carpets, no radio, a heater that may or may not work (but again, no carpet or insulation), and a fairly cramped seating position... at least it has cruise control. I’d rather take the Mini. Haha.

There is a fantastic Autox done at the Continental tire test track in Brimley, MI. It’s a haul for you, but it might work out.

Here is Lake Superior Region SCCA page.

It is a very boring drive even in my comparitave luxo barge and I’ll give you the heater, but honestly how is that broken?

The rest can be solved with an Ipod and some good headphones.

We’ll get a group to cruise up there for it and I’ll trade you cars if you get to cramped.

Haha, TBD. The heater is more of an issue because there’s no carpet or insulation. It works, I think... but there’s no way that’s keeping you warm enough if it’s 10 degrees out and the whole floor is metal.

Worst case (wurst case?) I’d bring the Fiesta... but honestly I just don’t know if I want to make the drive.

Throw a blanket on the floor or get some actual floor mats.

Come on, the drive isn’t thaaaat bad!

unless you try to go there and back in one day, that does suck but hotels there are cheap as dirt and there’ll be a group of us so we can split rooms then it’s like 20$ each
